An interesting Model 1882 infantry officer’s saber, with a lenticular-section blade featuring two thin, offset grooves; beautiful etchings bearing the text “la promo d’In Salah” against a floral etched background. Multi-branch nickel silver mount. Long-tailed cap bearing two intertwined initials on the pommel; forward-curving crossguard; black horn tang with filigree detailing, housed in a single-strap steel sheet scabbard. The In Salah oasis in the Sahara Desert links this saber to a unit from the oasis territories. Slight chip on the horn. Condition 1. A very interesting saber due to its attribution.
