CARLO DEMAND, Original poster design by Carlo Demand (1921–2000), gouache on cardboard, created as the official design for the 1949 Tour de France poster. The motif depicts a powerfully sculpted foot vigorously pedaling a racing bike—a symbol of dynamism, endurance, and the tireless human drive that has always defined the Tour de France. Arranged alongside the composition are eight flags of participating European nations—France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, Spain, and Italy—highlighting the race’s international dimension in the immediate postwar period. However, this design was not selected for the official event poster and thus remains a one-of-a-kind piece, measuring 52.5 x 42.5 cm.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
