Hirst, Damien Spin Painting Acrylic on cardboard. 27.5 x 22.5 cm. Signed "Damien Hirst" in pencil on the reverse and stamped with the artist's round stamp. This explosive Spin Painting, with its intense colors, has a kaleidoscopic effect. Hirst began his first experiments for his Spin Paintings series in 1992 and soon developed, during a fellowship in Berlin, his rotating spin machine, which distributed the paint in a circular pattern onto canvases or other materials. The results varied depending on the speed and duration of rotation, the fluidity of the paint, and the choice of colors. With its energetic impact, this work exemplifies the creation—which is only partially controllable and partly determined by chance—and the vibrancy of the Spin Paintings.
