Beckmann, Otto Defensive Weapon Sculpture. Bone fragments, glued, screwed together, and carved, and metal, on a wooden base. Probably around 1980 37.5 x 14 x 14 cm. The artist’s signature is scratched on the lower left side. With its complex construction, ornamental carvings, and technical details, this bone sculpture—and the mechanism built into it—resembles a fantastical, magical-ritual cult object. “His works move between technology and vision, between magic and mathematics, between irrationality and rationality.” (Peter Weibel, 2008, cited from archiv-otto-beckmann.com, accessed September 18, 2026). We thank Irene and Albert Beckmann, Otto Beckmann Archive, Sollenau, for their kind information provided on September 28, 2026.
