Richter, Gerhard Candle I Offset on vellum, mounted on cardboard. 1988. 89.5 x 94.5 cm. Butin 64. Based on the 1982 oil painting “Candle,” depicted in a mirror image. Richter originally used this motif for the poster of his solo exhibition at the Mönchehaus Museum of Modern Art in Goslar in 1988. Instead of the white-printed text with the museum details, he placed a large, handwritten signature across the print for the edition of 250 copies. Here is a print of the “poster avant la lettre,” one of the few copies without a signature, of which Butin was aware of two. A magnificent print of the full-format image. We thank Hubertus Butin, Berlin, for his kind information dated September 29, 2026. - Please ask for condition reports for the lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
