Ungerer, Tomi "Hygiène" Pen and ink in black on sturdy glassine. 28.2 x 19.6 cm. Signed “T. Ungerer” in pencil and titled in the lower right corner. Life and Death: With a sharp pen and a satirical touch, Ungerer depicts this unlikely pair taking a shower. In Ungerer’s studio in Ireland stood a real human skeleton, the study of which is reflected in the confidence of the depiction. Not only in his 1983 illustrated book *Rigor mortis* does he repeatedly group female bodies with skeletons.
