Cremer, Fritz Ascending II Bronze with a black-brown patina, mounted on a bronze rod and bronze plinth. 1967. 43.5 x 15.5 x 9.5 cm. Monogrammed “FC” on the outer left side; on the reverse of the plinth, the foundry mark “GIESSEREI SCHABOW.” Depicting the man in powerful motion—climbing or ascending—Cremer highlights the struggles of human development. Prominent in Cremer’s body of work, alongside numerous monumental sculptures in public spaces, is his series of nudes and lovers. These more private subjects form the thematic counterpart to his political commissioned works within his oeuvre and also served as a source of solace for the sculptor. Austere features are often combined in them with a sensual physicality, as is also evident in “The Ascender.” A smaller, slightly modified version of the monumental sculpture “The Ascendant” (1966/67). A magnificent cast with a vividly textured surface and a striking, iridescent patina. Provenance: Private collection, Berlin - Please request condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
