Schrieber, Ludwig Gabriel Old Man Bronze with a dark brown patina on a bronze plinth. 1961. 71.5 x 29 x 24 cm. On the reverse, at the edge of the plinth, bears the foundry mark “GUSS W.FÜSSEL 1 BERLIN 10.” See Domscheit 71. The sculpture resembles a cast sketch of an elderly man in swimming trunks, moving slowly toward the water with a slightly stooped posture. Schrieber deliberately forgoes exact proportions and details; instead, the artist focuses entirely on the aging body and its movement, using a vividly modeled surface to offer the viewer various perspectives. A magnificent, finely detailed, partly sharp-edged cast with an impressive patina. Provenance: Estate of Ludwig Gabriel Schrieber - Please request condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
