Strässer, Herbert Large Standing Figure Nickel silver, highly polished, on a nickel silver plinth. 1957. 36.5 x 11 x 9 cm. Monogrammed "H. ST." and dated on the lower back. In this unusual sculpture, the artist captures the standing, elongated female figure in a dynamic form. The polished surface, with its balanced proportions, reflects the incoming light in a variety of ways. The stylization and fragmentation of the human figure into geometric elements lend the sculpture a focused, compelling three-dimensional quality. As early as 1955, Strässer created the “Kleine Stehende” (Small Standing Figure), a bronze sculpture that, while differing in dimensions and featuring a slightly softer form, is otherwise nearly identical. A magnificent cast from Strässer’s early Cubist work, featuring a mirror-like, polished surface. Provenance: The artist’s estate - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
