Beneš, Vlastimil "WOODEN STALLS WITH ADVERTISEMENTS" Oil on stiff painting board. Probably the 1960s. 32 x 53 cm. Signed “Beneš” in black with a brush on the lower right; signed again “Vlastimil Benes” on the reverse in brown with a felt-tip pen (faded); titled; with the work number “WB - 35” and the dimensions. With a sparse and minimalist approach, reduced to just a few geometric planes, Beneš depicts here a group of simple wooden stalls with advertising signs set in the open countryside—a motif very characteristic of his work. Building on Social Realism and the poetics of the Constructivist avant-garde, Beneš’s painting represents a geometric, poetic realism. Provenance: Private collection, Berlin (acquired in the 1970s at the Ladengalerie Berlin) - Please request condition reports for the lots, as the condition is only listed in the catalog in exceptional cases. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
