Hans, Rolf "Ochre-Blue Sketch" Acrylic on painting board. 1967. 21 x 36 cm. Signed "RHans" in pencil and dated on the lower right; signed, dated, titled, and marked "Basel" on the reverse. Inspired by the “Color Field Paintings” of American Abstract Expressionists such as Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko, the jazz musician, painter, photographer, and object and collage artist Rolf Hans created his abstract striped paintings in 1966 and 1967, striving to further focus his visual language on the essential. The power of color, condensed into adjacent color fields, takes center stage in these compositions and stimulates the imagination, for “by reducing the color forms, Hans creates a vast space for possible mental explorations.” (rolf-hans.de, accessed September 9, 2026). Provenance: Private collection, Hesse - Please request condition reports for the lots, as the condition is usually not specified in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
