Hoffmann, Wolf Abstract Composition Oil on canvas. 1957. 80.5 x 121 cm. Monogrammed "WH" in black with a brush and dated in the lower right corner. With increasing abstraction and only vague echoes of figuration remaining, Wolf Hoffmann presents this composition as a complex structure of intertwined and diagonally overlapping forms. Toward the center of the painting, they condense into a dynamic interweaving that enters into a dynamic dialogue with the lighter-colored background, composed of juxtaposed geometric color fields. Thus, an interplay of form, color, and superimposition unfolds, in which representational elements increasingly recede, giving way to an independent abstract visual language.
