Echtermeyer, Curt Priest with a Skull Pastel on vellum. 62.3 x 47.7 cm. Signed in white chalk in the lower left corner with the artist’s monogram. The depiction of the priest, who presents a skull to the viewer with his long fingers, is one of the enigmatic, surreal figures in Echtermeyer’s work. The strictly frontal, almost mask-like, frozen figure exudes an eerie presence. On the reverse, Echtermeyer offers a variation of the same motif in a second version. Provenance: Artist’s estate Private collection, Southern Germany - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
