Wislicenus, Max "In Kampen on Sylt" Oil on painting board. 41 x 52.5 cm. Signed “Max Wislicenus” in dark blue with a brush on the lower right; signed again on the reverse in black with a pen, titled, with the dimensions, the number “85,” and marked in blue chalk with “one of my best paintings.” Rendered in subtly graded shades of color, arranged in horizontal layers, and executed with a loose brushstroke, the North Frisian landscape with its fishermen’s cottages shimmers.
