Hoerle, Heinrich Portrait of a Woman Brush in black, gouache, and opaque white on vellum. Circa 1925. 30.5 x 40.3 cm. Signed "Hoerle" in pencil in the upper right corner. Our portrait of a woman belongs to a series of female and girl heads that Heinrich Hoerle explored intensively in the mid-1920s. Characteristic features include the highly simplified facial form, the large, almond-shaped eyes, and the small, sharply defined mouth. While the face remains almost unmodelled and very light in tone, Hoerle renders the dark hair as softly blending black areas. The subtle pink accent on the lips enhances the striking effect of the drawing. We thank Dirk Backes, Aachen, for his helpful comments dated October 7, 2026. Provenance: Private collection, Thuringia - Please request condition reports for the lots, as the condition is usually not specified in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
