Grunwaldt, Paul Forest Landscape with Walkers Watercolor on watercolor paper. 1926. 33.7 x 24.7 cm. Monogrammed “P.G.” in green pen at the lower right and dated; stamped “Grunwaldt” three times on the reverse. The sunlight shines through the tall trees in a prism-like beam, like a spotlight, illuminating a young couple in a clearing overlooking the lake. As a member of the November Group, Paul Grunwaldt was familiar with a wide variety of art movements and styles in the 1920s and shaped his own idyllic visual world from diverse elements of Cubism, Expressionism, and New Objectivity. This forest landscape, characterized by areas of color and simplified forms, is part of a series of similar motifs from the 1920s. On the reverse are fragments of another watercolor, “Blüten.” Early works by Paul Grundwaldt from the November Group period are very rare on the art market. - Please ask for condition reports for the lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
