Melzer, Moriz Women Bathing in a Landscape Color monotype on thin vellum, mounted on backing paper. Probably ca. 1915. 47.3 x 33.5 cm (48.3 x 34 cm). Signed "Melzer". Not listed in Leistner. Melzer’s expressive visual language combines naively poetic elements—reminiscent of works by the Blue Rider—with Constructivist and Cubist influences. As a co-founder of the November Group, he devoted himself with sophistication to the technique of monotype. Through his acquaintance with the painter and graphic artist Georg Tappert, he was introduced to color linoleum printing, which he himself described as an “indirect painting technique.” Melzer painted with oil paint on the surface of the plate, which was then usually transferred onto Japanese paper. A truly magnificent print with a small margin. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
