Rohlfs, Christian Hurrying Man with a Newspaper Watercolor on brownish vellum. Circa 1910/12. Approx. 22.5 x 15.8 cm. Monogrammed "CR" in gray with a brush at the bottom left. A fleeting yet pointed, almost caricature-like brush drawing of a man leaning slightly forward, walking briskly with a newspaper under his arm. On the reverse is a fragment of another brush drawing, “Horse-drawn Carriage on a Bridge.” Both drawings are fragments from Rohlfs’ Munich sketchbook of 1910–12. The sheet containing the precisely matching adjoining fragments on the front and back is now in the Kunsthalle zu Kiel (see *Overwhelmingly Bold—The Complete Rohlfs in Kiel*, exhibition catalog, Kunsthalle zu Kiel, Kiel 2012, p. 275, Figs. 319v and 319r) and shows, on the front, a walker with a dog as a complement to the hurrying man; on the reverse, the fragment with the missing right bridge pier is visible. Accompanied by a written certificate of authenticity from the Christian Rohlfs Archive, Osthaus Museum, Hagen, dated September 21, 2026. The work is cataloged in the archive under the number CRA 307/26. We thank Dr. Birgit Schulte, Hagen, for the helpful information provided on September 22, 2026. Provenance: Private collection, Southern Germany - Please request condition reports for the lots, as the condition is usually not specified in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
