Gminska, Engelbert Still Life with Tea Can, Teapot, and Bouquet of Forget-Me-Nots Oil on canvas. 1910. 54 x 65 cm. Signed “Gminska” in red with a brush in the upper left corner, dated and inscribed “Paris”; signed again in black with a brush on the reverse. Colored cloths weave through this charming composition of delicate hues, and a lavishly embroidered Russian tablecloth provides the vibrant floral backdrop for the still life. With an impressionistic, fluid style and impasto application of paint, Gminska imbues the areas of color with a delicate, iridescent shimmer through the finest gradations and short, densely placed brushstrokes. In this way, he subtly captures all the different materials in their respective, unique surface effects. The collector Carl Hagemann was among her most important patrons. Provenance: Private collection, Rhineland-Palatinate - Please request condition reports for the lots, as the condition is only indicated in the catalog in exceptional cases. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
