ANGELO MANGIAROTTI & BRUNO MORASSUTTI, Rare “Secticon T1” table clock, 1956, Portescap (Le Porte-Echappement Universel S.A.), La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Black plastic case, brass-colored anodized dial with raised stick indices, black hour and minute hands, red second hand, glass cover. The words “secticon” and “swiss made” are printed on the dial. Dimensions: H. approx. 24 cm. The “Secticon” table clock, designed in 1956 by the two Milanese architects and pioneering designers Angelo Mangiarotti and Bruno Morassutti, is considered one of the most iconic designs of postwar Italian modernism. Its flowing, organic-looking chalice shape breaks decisively with the traditional case geometry of classic table clocks. With this design, Mangiarotti and Morassutti created a sculptural object that exhibits a balanced dynamism from every angle. Powered by a high-precision Swiss battery-operated movement from the renowned Portescap manufactory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the Secticon combines avant-garde aesthetics with outstanding Swiss precision engineering. In good original condition for its age, with a fine patina. The case shows slight, subtle signs of wear. The brass-colored dial exhibits a characteristic, even patina beneath the glass. Functionality not tested.
