LE COURBUSIER "LC4 Chaise Lounge" 1970–1980 Leather, chrome frame, metal. HxWxD: approx. 78/154/55 cm. The chaise longue consists of two parts: a lacquered metal base, a continuously adjustable chrome-plated frame with straps stretched across it, and a leather-upholstered seating surface. Signed and serial number “Le Corbusier LC 4 / 732”; leather upholstery has been replaced. This design classic, created in 1928 and exhibited at the Salon d’Automne in Paris in 1929, is the best-known furniture design by the Swiss-French architect and designer Le Corbusier (Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand); early versions of which are now housed, among other places, at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Le Corbusier called the lounge a “resting machine.” It is noteworthy that the reclining position can be adjusted without any mechanical parts. Gravity effortlessly holds the LC4 chaise longue in place. NOT SUITABLE FOR SHIPPING—PICKUP ONLY!
