CHARLES RENNIE MACKINTOSH – “Argyle Chair” Cassina, Italy. Stamped beneath the seat frame with the manufacturer’s mark, model number, and signature. Solid ash, stained black and finished with an open-pore varnish. Firmly upholstered seat with original black leather covering. The iconic, exceptionally tall backrest with two supporting posts is crowned by the oval headboard with its characteristic geometric cutout—the unmistakable hallmark of this famous design from the Glasgow School. Dimensions: H 137 cm, W 48 cm, D 46 cm. With slight signs of age and wear. The “Argyle Chair” was originally designed in 1897 for the Tea Rooms on Argyle Street in Glasgow and is now considered one of the most significant furniture icons of the early 20th century. As part of the “I Maestri” collection, Cassina has reintroduced this design into production to honor Mackintosh’s visionary fusion of functionality, linear austerity, and sculptural abstraction. Due to their outstanding craftsmanship and faithful reproduction of the original design, Cassina’s signed versions are internationally regarded as highly sought-after collector’s items.
