DORNY, BERTRAND (1931–2015) “Didonc”—color aquatint etching with embossed print on vellum. Numbered “40/40” in pencil at the bottom left, titled “DIDONC” in the center, and signed “dorny” by hand at the bottom right. Image size approx. 40 x 30 cm. Frame, 70 x 55 cm. In the print *Didonc*, Bertrand Dorny once again demonstrates his masterful command of relief and aquatint printing. The work is dominated by a dynamic composition of cool light blue, deep reed green, and an expressive, geometric color field in bright red. Particularly noteworthy is the work’s exceptional tactile quality: here, Dorny combines sharp, relief-like embossed edges with organic-looking textures in the green color field. These subtle raised areas in the paper refract light in a unique way and lend the abstract work a palpable three-dimensionality. With a small edition of only 40 copies, this print represents a particularly fine example of Dorny’s experimental printmaking. The print is in good condition for its age, with rich colors and pronounced embossing. The protective glass shows slight traces of condensation or moisture on the inside in the lower area (above the green section); upon visual inspection, the print itself appears unaffected by this.
