CHAGALL, MARC (1887–1985), “Intérieur,” 1961 drypoint and aquatint in green on vellum. Plate size approx. 31 × 22 cm. Signed by hand in pencil in the lower right: Marc Chagall. Inscribed lower left: E.A. (Épreuve d’Artiste / Artist’s Proof). A rare copy signed in pencil by Marc Chagall himself. Unlike the regular edition of 100 copies and the prints included in the book edition—which were not individually hand-signed—this is an artist’s proof signed personally by the artist, outside the regular or unnumbered edition. The etching was created in 1961 as an original insert for the monograph on the artist written by Franz Meyer, *Marc Chagall: Life and Work*, DuMont Schauberg, Cologne, 1961/1962. Printed by Lacourière et Frélaut, Paris. On the reverse side of the frame, there are old handwritten notes regarding the work, the edition (“Etching for Franz Meyer, 1962 / Edition of 100 copies, some artist’s proofs”), and the printer. A beautiful print with vibrant colors and a full margin. Minimally browned within the mat cutout; mounted on cardboard on the reverse at the upper corners. Overall, in very good condition. Framed under glass. Frame dimensions approx. 60 × 49 cm. Bibliography: See Patrick Cramer, Marc Chagall. Les Livres Illustrés, Geneva 1989, cat. no. 48.
