ROESNER, ULI (1924) “The Red Machine” Oil on painting board. 80 x 60 cm. Framed in a wooden frame. 83 x 63 cm. On the reverse, the artist’s handwritten studio and address label (“uli roesner · painter and graphic artist / stuttgart 13 · grünblickstraße 2”), on which the title “Die rote Maschine” is handwritten in ink, along with the price “DM 900,–.” Also on the reverse is a printed label from the painting support manufacturer “LUKAS / Schoenfeld” (type 630 strawboard, No. 22) as well as the handwritten number “II.” The expressive, industrially influenced composition depicts a red machine structure and crane system within a constructivist-style spatial arrangement. In this work, Roesner combines a structured formal language with a multi-layered, textured color surface in muted earth and green tones, from which the vibrant red of the central motif emerges dynamically. In good original condition for its age.
