HÖLZEL, ADOLF (1853–1934) “Untitled” Colored pencil and charcoal on sturdy paper. Approx. 14.5 x 11.5 cm. Signed “A. HOELZEL” lower right. An expressive, rhythmically composed drawing by the important pioneer of modern abstraction. Through a delicate interplay of red pencil drawing and strongly contoured black chalk lines, Hölzel develops a dense network of geometric shapes, arcs, and vaguely suggested figurative elements. The work impressively documents Hölzel’s constant pursuit of a harmonious order of plane, line, and form. In good condition for its age. Paper minimally browned; reverse clean.
