Oblong 8vo in loose sheets, illustrated cover with inlay. “This alphabet book, the fruit of the life and research of the engraver Louis Jou, is dedicated to all those who have combined their will and their efforts to preserve the beauty of the letter, the creator of the image and the art of painting the word” (Colophon). A very rare and superb collection of large, full-page ornate initials (K and W are omitted), each with a different background, published four years before the death of the master typographer. A ONE-TIME PRINTING OF 35 NUMBERED COPIES; this one is one of 25 printed on Montgolfier paper. (Sheet No. 125). Uncut copy in mint condition.
