(Louis JOU). CARTOUX (Maurice). THE ODYSSEY OF MAITRE LOUIS. Les Baux, Les livres de Louis Jou, 1958. Folio-sized loose-leaf volume, with illustrated cover, folder, and slipcase. VERY RARE ORIGINAL EDITION from a private and confidential print run. Leaf (No. 120) notes “10 copies on Montgolfier”; in his preface, Mr. Cartoux states: “Printed in a small number of copies and away from prying eyes”; this one is numbered 12. It is a humorous account, in the form of a parody of an epic poem, narrating one of the two trips to Italy taken by Louis Jou and Maurice Cartoux. The illustrations consist of a woodcut on the cover, a self-portrait, and numerous in-text illustrations, including four full-page ones. A few pinholes. A BEAUTIFUL COPY ENRICHED BY A HANDWRITTEN DEDICATION FROM THE AUTHOR: “To my faithful collaborator.”
