FIRST EDITION illustrated with numerous woodcuts engraved in black and color by Louis JOU, including 24 separate plates. Printed in a run of 495 copies; this one is one of 60 NUMBERED ON HOLLAND PAPER, featuring A SET OF ILLUSTRATED PLATES printed in bistre on Imperial Japanese paper. COPY ENRICHED WITH AN ADDITIONAL STATE in black of the woodcut on page 53, on vellum. Probably the copy belonging to the writer Charles Forot, founder of Éditions du Pigeonnier in St. Félicien d’Ardèche, as suggested by the correspondence card dated 1938 sent by Dambournet, a Parisian bookseller, offering to sell him this volume. A VERY BEAUTIFUL COPY.
