PETITOT (E.A.). A TREATISE ON PERSPECTIVE, TO FACILITATE ITS USE BY ARTISTS. Dedicated to the artists themselves. Parma, Published by the Faure Brothers, at the printing house of Filippo Carmignani, 1758. Small folio of [10]-20 pages, paperback, as published. FIRST EDITION of one of the rarest works by Petitot (1727–1801), architect to Prince Ferdinand of Bourbon. Having settled in Parma in 1753, he left a profound mark on the city’s urban planning and architecture, offering in this treatise geometric and practical solutions for the design of figures and the perspective rendering of bas-reliefs. The 9 plates that illustrate it are remarkable for their precision, providing a meticulous rendering of the lines of perspective; they were engraved by Pierre Jacques Gaultier. A very beautiful set, luxuriously printed on heavy paper, with the explanatory text printed in French and Italian. Scattered foxing.
