Kley, Heinrich The Harbor and the Red Cliffs of Heligoland. Watercolor on stiff vellum. 26.1 x 38.2 cm. Inscribed, signed, and dated "- Heligoland - Kley 97" in the lower right corner. In 1897–98, Kley produced over 100 watercolors depicting scenes from German cities on commission from the Velten art dealership in Karlsruhe; these were reproduced as colored postcards and became widely distributed. Their particular appeal lies in the precise yet atmospheric depiction, which earned their creator a reputation as a specialist in topographical subjects. Beginning in 1908, Kley became widely known to the general public through his work at the Munich-based magazine *Simplicissimus*. The following year, he moved to Munich, where he joined the staff of the magazine *Jugend*. - Please inquire about condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
