Bendemann, Eduard Women at the Well in Gorbio near Menton. Brown pen over pencil. 25.5 x 91.7 cm. Inscribed "Gorbio (Mentone)" in the lower left corner. Bendemann traveled through France to Italy in 1867. Numerous travel sketches from the border region between Menton and Ventimiglia have been preserved, including those in a sketchbook at the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf (see Christian Scholl, Anne-Katrin Sors (eds.): Before the Paintings: Eduard Bendemann Draws.
