Koekkoek, Barend Cornelis Path through a dense forest landscape. Pencil. 25.4 x 26.7 cm. Monogrammed (ligated) and dated "BCK. 1828." in the lower left corner. Barend Cornelis, a member of the Dutch Koekkoek family of artists, studied at the newly opened Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam beginning in 1822, thanks to a scholarship from the Royal Government. In 1826, Koekkoek left Amsterdam and, as a budding landscape painter, set out into nature. During his travels, he met his first student, Willem Bodeman, who joined him. Koekkoek spent the next two years initially in Hilversum, where a circle of painters had formed around Pieter Geradus van Os. In 1828, he settled for a year in Beek near Nijmegen, but kept returning to the capital and, in the summer of that same year, undertook study trips to the Harz Mountains, the Rhine, and Italy. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
