Maestri, Michelangelo Venus and Cupid in a landscape. Gouache over an outline etching on laid paper, mounted by hand. 37.3 x 30.1 cm. Inscribed, signed and titled "Raf. Sanz. Urb. inv. - MichAng. Maestri. fecit in Roma / VENERE FERITA DA CUPIDO". Maestri worked as an engraver, painter and publisher in Rome at the beginning of the 19th century, where he mainly created mythological depictions after Raphael. The present depiction is characterized by a decidedly delicate, restrained use of colour.
