Reinhold, Johann Friedrich Leberecht The courted hood embroiderer. Gouache on laid paper. 47.5 x 38.5 cm. Johann Friedrich Reinhold, who trained under the Zeitz painter J. G. Krippendorf, made a name for himself in Gera primarily as a painter of portraits of Thuringian bourgeois families and the nobility. A fire in his house in 1780 destroyed a large part of his studio and he was forced to move first to Schleiz and later to Neustadt. It was not until 1783 that he returned to Gera. He received commissions from the royal courts in Reuß-Gera, as well as from Thuringia, Franconia and Prussia. His three sons Friedrich Philipp, Heinrich and Gustav also took up the painting trade. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the state of preservation is only stated in the catalog in exceptional cases. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.
