6503 - Chodowiecki, Daniel Nikolaus

Chodowiecki, Daniel Nikolaus Cabinet d'un peintre - The Artist's Family Portrait. Etching on handmade paper. 17.9 x 22.8 cm. 1771. Engelmann 75 II. Chodowiecki’s narrative family portrait is among the best-known examples of this genre. The artist depicts himself working on a miniature in his Berlin living room, while his wife and five children are gathered in an intimate circle around a table. Chodowiecki dedicated the print to his mother, who lived in Danzig and had never seen either her daughter-in-law or her grandchildren, nor had she seen her son for many years. An excellent print with a narrow border. Slightly dusty and with some foxing; the lower left corner tip has been reattached; the left outer edge is slightly thin; otherwise in very good condition. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
