XAVIER MATÉGOT (Born in 1956) & CHRISTIAN FARJON (Publisher) Set of six armchairs, model XM3, designed circa 1986. Chrome-plated tubular metal frame; backrest consisting of a cast aluminum strip housing a black rubber tube; suspended seat made of molded plywood, resting on a gray-lacquered steel base. H. 68 - W. 54 - D. 64 cm (Very slight signs of oxidation) Provenance: Private collection, Paris. Bibliography: Yvonne Brunhammer and Marie-Laure Perrin, “Le Mobilier français, 1960–1998,” Paris, Éditions Massin, 1998; a similar model is reproduced on p. 173. Additional Information: The XM3 armchair is part of the XM furniture collection developed by Xavier Matégot in the 1980s. Its design is based on a play of contrasts between the delicacy of the metal frame, the geometry of the seat, and the simplicity of the backrest. The combination of industrial materials and clean lines gives this chair a decidedly modernist aesthetic.
