BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX - Opera omnia, synopsibus ornata, postillis illustrata [...] Compiled and edited by the Reverend Father Ioannis de La Haye. Paris. Denys Moreau, 1635. A folio volume, marbled sheepskin, ribbed spine decorated with floral motifs and a title label. Red edges. Traces of old restoration to the binding. Upper joint split. Single volume, complete in itself. Full-page engraved frontispiece title page. Large engraved vignette on the title page and in the dedication to Cardinal Barberini. This is the first volume, complete in itself, containing the life of Bernard of Clairvaux and sermons. The complete edition consists of 4 volumes in total. A rare edition. Also included from the same author: * Operum tomus I. Epistolas continens ** Operum tomi II. pars prima, Sermones in dominicas & festa per annum complecte [...] studio et labore Jacobi Merloni Horstii. Paris, Societatis typographicae librorum ecclesiasticorum, 1667. 2 in-8° volumes bound in dark sheepskin, five-ribbed spine, ornate panels, title, and volume number. Significant damage to the spine of the second volume. These are the first two volumes of the Parisian in-8° edition of the works of Bernard of Clairvaux, based on the edition prepared by Jacob Merler Horst, whose name was Latinized as Hortius. However, this edition appears to be distinct from the 9-volume edition held at the National Library, which has a slightly different title.
