FROM THE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF MARIA WELLER. *This trophy from 1973, along with the accompanying original certificate from the Blau-Weiß Pforzheim Boxing Club, marks the early years and successes of René Weller. Weller joined the Blau-Weiß Pforzheim Boxing Club in 1966. There, his extraordinary talent was discovered and nurtured by Heinz Weishaar. In 1972, Weller became German bantamweight champion for the first time. In 1973, he began his streak of four consecutive German featherweight titles. This was followed by additional German championships, international competitions, the Olympic Games in Montreal, and finally his transition to the professional ranks. In total, René Weller fought 355 bouts as an amateur and won 338 of them.
