Guarnido Indian ink and watercolor on thick, textured paper for this splendid original artwork No. 22, taken from Volume 7 of *Blacksad*, *Alors tout tombe*, Part Two. Blacksad is a cult classic, anthropomorphic crime series that features animals in the dark, vintage atmosphere of 1940s American film noir. Internationally renowned, Guarnido is celebrated for his sumptuous use of direct watercolor, lending each page a masterful quality. Before revolutionizing the 9th Art, Guarnido worked in animation in Madrid. He is notably credited in the opening credits of *Tarzan*. This background explains his incredible talent for conveying the expression and dynamics of his characters and scenes. The true evolution of the comic book lies in the author’s immense ability to bring his anthropomorphic characters to life. He excels at selecting each animal species to reflect the character’s psychology, social class, or role. All these different narrative elements come together in this work. Weekly, Blacksad’s friend, is released from prison. It is winter, and a thick layer of snow covers the landscape. Fear is written all over the little hero’s face as the guard closes the metal door behind him. His weasel instinct isn’t lying to him… That big black sedan is following him. There’s no doubt about it—he has to run, because the car is getting closer. Unfortunately, he stumbles, and the vehicle is right on top of him… The colors, the atmosphere, the reader’s emotional response… it’s all there. You shiver with cold and fear for the brave journalist. A rare and magnificent work—only a few panels are available per album. Signed. 47x32.5 cm
