Attributed to Giacinto GIMIGNANI (Pistoia 1606–Rome 1681) Virgin and Child Blessing a Holy Queen with Saint Augustine Pen and brown ink, brown wash, and highlights of white gouache over black pencil lines on beige paper 56.4 x 42.7 cm Horizontal center fold, tears and losses along the edges, stains, and surface discoloration (partial oxidation of the gouache) Given its large size, this drawing was likely conceived as a model for a commission. The fluid and gentle style is reminiscent of that of Giacinto Gimignani, who frequently used pen and white gouache highlights. It may possibly depict Saint Bridget of Sweden, a queen who founded an order following the Augustinian rule in the 14th century
