Attributed to Toussaint DUBREUIL (Paris 1561–1602) Study of a Man from Behind, after Michelangelo Pen and brown ink 37 x 12 cm Lined drawing, cut-out shape, creases and small losses along the edges, small holes and small tears Sketch on the reverse of the lining, annotated “Michelangelo” Our drawing was executed after a drawing by Michelangelo held at the Teylers Museum (inv. A.19). Several variations are noticeable compared to the Teylers drawing, particularly in the position of the leg and the angle of the neck. The Teylers drawing is cropped on the left, so part of the drapery visible in our drawing is missing from it. Toussaint Dubreuil is known for drawing “in the manner of Michelangelo,” incorporating slight modifications into copies of original drawings. The very dense penwork in our drawing is similar to that used by Toussaint Dubreuil in his Michelangelesque drawings
