198 - Still Life with Pomegranates – Possibly Signed “G. Prokopiou”

Still Life with Pomegranates – Possibly Signed “G. Prokopiou” An accomplished still life executed in oil on canvas, depicting whole and opened pomegranates arranged upon a dark surface. The painting bears a difficult-to-read signature in the lower left corner, which may initially appear to read “I. Prokopiou.” However, a fine additional stroke visible at the beginning of the signature may, when examined under magnification, form the Greek letter “Γ”. The signature may therefore possibly read “G. Prokopiou.” The possible attribution to Georgios Prokopiou has not been authenticated, and the painting is not accompanied by a certificate of authenticity or an expert opinion. Inspection by a specialist with documented knowledge of the artist’s work and signatures is strongly recommended. The painting displays visible craquelure, surface wear and small areas of paint loss, which should be taken into consideration and may require professional conservation. Offered strictly as is, where is, without any guarantee regarding authorship, date or condition. Prospective buyers are advised to inspect the work personally or through a qualified specialist before purchase. Should the attribution be confirmed by a recognised expert, a work of this quality could, according to the seller’s estimate, exceed €2,000 at auction. Dimensions: 34 × 62 cm.
