R.O.J.A. Emil Busch | Pantascop No. 5 Estimate: €1,000–1,200 Year: c.1890 Condition: B English: Introduced in the 1860s, the Pantoscop is celebrated as one of the earliest and most successful symmetrical ultra-wide-angle designs in photographic history. Because of its intensely curved, thin glass elements, manufacturing this lens required masterful craftsmanship. The No. 5 variant is particularly revered by ultra-large-format photographers for its enormous image circle (approx. 500 mm), with a focal length of approx. 245 mm, capable of easily covering 14x17' formats up to 20x20' when stopped down. This makes it an ideal choice for both dedicated collectors and modern wet-plate collodion artisans. The lens is in fine condition with clean and clear elements. German: Introduced in the 1860s, the Pantoscop is considered one of the first and most successful symmetrical super-wide-angle designs in the history of photographic optics. Due to its highly curved and thin glass elements, its manufacture placed high demands on craftsmanship. Model No. 5 is particularly popular among large-format photographers because of its image circle of approximately 500 mm and a focal length of about 245 mm. When stopped down, it can cover an area ranging from 14 × 17 inches to 20 × 20 inches. This makes the lens appealing to both collectors and modern practitioners of the wet collodion process. In excellent condition with clean and clear lenses.
