Hieronimus Mader, Isny | Jnvincibel Model III 13x18cm Estimate: €2,000–2,400 Year: c. 1889 Serial No.: 524 Condition: B/A English: The camera is made of nickel-plated metal with leather bellows. At the rear, it features a focusing screen and accommodates 13x18cm plates in holders. It has a folding bed (or, since it is made of metal, a base plate) at the front. A rail extends forward from the center of this base-plate, and the extension of this rail from the base-plate is used for focusing; the rail is toothed on one side and engages with a knob located under the base-plate. The rail is also scaled on at least some examples, but only in centimeters of extension—not in focus distance. The rail can be loosened (with a second knob) and swung sideways, allowing for front swing. When the camera is folded, the side plates fold in front of the base plate, which in turn covers the lens plate. It is remarkably compact when folded. The lens plate must be detached from the rail, and the lens itself must be removed, in order to fold the camera. The camera offered here is in very fine condition and comes with the matching nickel-plated Aplanat Invincibel lens for Waterhouse stops. Engraved “Jnvincibel Modell III & H. Mader’s Patent G. Leidig Nürnberg.” Provenance: Deutsches Fotomuseum, Markkleeberg German: The 13x18 cm camera is made of nickel-plated metal and features a leather bellows. It features an original ground glass screen. At the front is a folding metal base plate. A rail protrudes forward from the center of this base plate; extending it is used for focusing. The rail is serrated on one side and is extended using a knob located beneath the base plate. A second knob allows the rail to be released and swiveled to the side, enabling front tilt. To fold the camera up, the side panels are folded in front of the base plate, which in turn covers the lens mount. When folded, the camera is remarkably compact. To achieve this, the lens plate must be removed from the rail, and the lens itself must be detached. The specimen offered here is in very fine condition and comes with the matching nickel-plated Aplanat Invincibel lens with a slide aperture. Engraving: “Jnvincibel Model III & H. Mader’s Patent G. Leidig Nuremberg.” Provenance: German Museum of Photography, Markkleeberg.
