Designed for concealed installation in handbags, briefcases, and other everyday objects, the camera enabled discreet photography, including infrared-assisted surveillance under difficult lighting conditions. The sophisticated compact camera features an electrically operated shutter, motorized film transport, and a specially designed optical system for 24 × 24 mm exposures on 35 mm film. The camera is fitted with its original special-purpose lens, marked 2830/2180 with cap, and is accompanied by its complete original equipment, including electrical control and power supply units, connecting cables, release accessories, and additional components. In mint condition, complete in its original fitted wooden storage case. German: The HFK I (Half-Format Camera I) was developed by the Operational-Technical Sector of the STASI as a specialized device for covert surveillance and intelligence operations and as an alternative to the Robot.
