FED Works, Kharkiv | Fed-670 Prototype Estimate: €10,000–12,000 Year: c.1986 Condition: B- English: An experimental Soviet medium-format rangefinder-coupled camera developed by the Fed Works in Kharkiv as part of the ambitious Fed-670 project launched in 1985. Designed for 120 roll film and the 6×7 cm format, the Fed-670 was intended as a semi-professional rangefinder camera with interchangeable lenses and a central shutter. The project never entered serial production and survives only in a handful of prototype and dimensional-model variants. This example represents a late stage in the Fed-670’s development and is fitted with the extremely rare Minitar-11 5.6/65 mm lens. Its substantial injection-molded body incorporates a large coupled rangefinder/viewfinder assembly and an interchangeable lens mount. Published sources document Fed-670 prototypes with Helios-113 “Neptun,” Minitar, and other experimental lens configurations, reflecting the ongoing development of the project. An exceptionally rare surviving prototype from Fed’s only attempt to develop a medium-format camera and one of the most ambitious late Soviet camera projects.
