208 - [MANUSCRIPT] [OCCULTISM] Abbé MONTFAUCON DE VILLARS - The Count of Gabalis. A rare and beautiful handwritten copy of this great classic, first published in 1670 and reprinted several times. Through this Count of Gabalis, “Villars, a brilliant mind of the 17th century, sought, in the five conversations of the Count of Gabalis, to reveal in an engaging manner the mysteries of the so-called Kabbalah of the Brothers of the Rose-Cross.” This copy appears to be faithful to the original text and was likely produced in the first few years following the book’s publication—which, it should be noted, was banned. Indeed, the author certainly paid with his life for publishing these secrets, since “the poor abbot was murdered by scoundrels as he was on his way to Lyon.” Period binding in full calfskin, with a five-rib spine and richly decorated panels. Beautiful, clearly legible handwriting. Minor flaws and slight rubbing, nothing serious. In-12, 252 pp. (The pagination begins, as in most old editions, on page 3; here, there is no dedicated title page.)

The reserve price is the minimum price accepted by the seller. Bidders cannot see this price. To win an item, you must place the highest bid and meet or exceed the reserve price.
