Count Antoine HAMILTON - Memoirs of the Count of Grammont Published by Edwards, London, n.d. (1793) — A very fine edition—clearly the finest—of these famous memoirs, illustrated with 78 steel engravings (not 72 as indicated on the title page) by Bartolozzi, Le Groux, Knight, Birrell, etc., after Harding and Voet, and a view of Somer-Hill. Printed on fine vellum paper, this copy is complete with the 77-page “notes and clarifications,” which are often missing. A very fine copy in a charming period English binding, with a richly decorated fawn-colored spine, embossed sheepskin covers with a double border of gilded frames, gilded interior roulettes, and gilt edges. Minimal scuffing, very fine overall condition, partial sun fading on the front cover, a slight but insignificant damage to a corner of the back cover, a few browned leaves. “A superior edition to previous ones because it is more beautiful and because it contains better and more extensive notes” (Brunet III, 30) In-4, 3ff.; 313 pp. and 77 pp.; 2ff.
