[MANUSCRIPT] Processionale ordinis Carmelitarum - Sacred Music, Order of the Carmelites A magnificent Latin liturgical manuscript on paper, dating from the late 17th century to the early 18th century—a Carmelite processional containing chants notated on red staves using black square musical notation. 69 double-sided folios, illustrated with approximately 160 polychrome painted initials and vignettes, as well as floral decorative elements. Period full calfskin binding, spine with 5 raised bands and ornate panels; binding slightly faded, minor flaws, interior fresh, a few minor discolorations. Superb polychrome work reminiscent of illuminated books of hours, with great attention to detail in the drawing of the staves and vignettes. Handwritten notes from the period, in pen and in Latin, on the first blank page, indicating use by F. Clementis (crossed out and replaced by another name) at St. Nicolao Carmelitae (crossed out and replaced by St. Baptista Carmelitae) followed by the date 1694 (crossed out and replaced by 1770) and finally a third notation: *Ad Usum Fratris Ludovici Carmetae* 1785. The work appears to have been preserved for a century and remained in use among the Carmelites.
